Oswego, NY -- A 16-year-old boy carrying a paintball gun near Oswego Middle School caused the school to be locked down this afternoon after he was spotted by a bus driver.
The incident started about 2:07 p.m. when a Oswego school district bus driver spotted the youth across the street from the school on Mark Fitzgibbons Drive with what appeared to be a gun. The driver told a school security officer, who in turn notified 911, Oswego police said.
Several Oswego police units and the school resource officer responded to the area and the boy was quickly found, police said.
The 16-year-old, who police did not identify, was going to meet a friend for a game of paintball, police said. He was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon on school grounds, a violation.
The middle school was placed on lockdown during the investigation, police said. There was no danger to students or staff, the police determined.
