Katonah, NY — An East Syracuse woman has been accused of stabbing two young girls she was baby-sitting at a home across the street from Martha Stewart.

Authorities went to the house on Girdle Ridge Road in Katonah, N.Y. shortly before 9:30 p.m. Saturday after receiving a 911 call.

An officer saw a woman outside the house when he arrived and took her into custody. He found two sisters ages 7 and 9 with multiple stab wounds on the kitchen floor.

Police said the girls were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Authorities have charged 39-year-old Lisa Turkki of East Syracuse, N.Y., with two counts of assault.

Police told The Journal News that Turkki is a relative who was baby-sitting the girls. The Bedford-Katonah Patch reported that Turkki is the girls' aunt.

The Bedford-Katonah Patch reported that the girls, who were stabbed multiple times in their backs and legs, were awake today following surgeries.

She was arraigned in Bedford Town Court and taken to Westchester County Jail. No information about an attorney for Turkki was immediately available. A phone call to her home was not returned.

A message left at the Girdle Ridge Road residence was also not returned.

Stewart has owned a 153-acre estate on Girdle Ridge Road since 2000.

Another local news station reported a gruesome scene inside the house. Police said the sisters, ages 9 and 7, were listed in critical condition after surgery.
