Pfc. Bradley E. Manning, 22, has already been charged with downloading classified information from a computer at a base in Iraq and sending it to WikiLeaks in a previous incident.
He had been confined at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait since May 29.
The Army this morning said Manning has been transferred to the Quantico Marine Base in Virginia. The case is being transferred to the U.S. Army Military District of Washington.
Manning’s unit in Iraq is in the process of coming home to Fort Drum, the army said.
Manning, of Potomac, Md., joined the Army in October 2007 as an intelligence analyst and was assigned to the 2nd Brigade of the 10th Mountain Division.
