ALBANY, N.Y. — New York Gov. David Paterson says he regrets dropping out of the race for a full term.
Paterson’s comments on WOR-AM came a day after a special prosecutor cleared him of allegations that he tampered with a witness who had accused a top aide of domestic violence.
He now says he has second thoughts about leaving the race shortly after he asked Attorney General Andrew Cuomo to investigate the allegations of misuse of the governor’s office and state police.
Paterson, a Democrat, says he needed to drop out because he had to deal with the allegations. He also noted the current candidates propose mostly the same actions he’s undertaking in the fiscal crisis and that it validates that he would have been a strong contender.
Cuomo has since become the Democratic nominee.
