Syracuse, NY - A Syracuse man was indicted today on charges stemming from a drive-by shootout with another gunman on a bicycle last month.

Obed Ocasio 24, of 307 Onondaga Ave., was indicted on felony charges of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and first-degree reckless endangerment.

Assistant District Attorney Michael Kasmarek said Ocasio was driving a sport utility vehicle when he engaged in an exchange of gunfire with a man on a bicycle in the 200 block of Oswego Street June 18.

As Ocasio was fleeing the scene, he almost drove the SUV into a police car on patrol in the area, Kasmarek said. The gun charge accuses him of having a loaded .22 semi-automatic pistol in the vehicle when he was stopped by police. Police also recovered a .22-caliber rifle from the vehicle.

The reckless endangerment charge accuses Ocasio of creating a grave risk of death to two adults and three children who were standing nearby when the exchange of gunfire occurred.

Ocasio could face up to 15 years in state prison if convicted.
