DeWitt, NY -- DeWitt police officers used a Taser to subdue a Syracuse driver accused of cocaine possession outside a bar early this morning, authorities said.

The man and two passengers, all of Syracuse, were charged after the 2:28 a.m. incident outside Gilligan's Pub, 3601 James St., in DeWitt, police said.

Joseph M. Henry, 34, was charged with felony aggravated assault on a police officer, as well as misdemeanor resisting arrest and driving while intoxicated. He also faces criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Megan M. Skinner, 25, charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance. Christopher A. Gifford, 35, was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Here's what happened, according to DeWitt Police:

An officer approached the suspects' vehicle in the parking lot outside Gilligan's. While talking to the occupants, the officer saw a white powder on the arm of a passenger.

The officer ordered the passenger out of the vehicle, as other officers ordered the driver and another passenger out.

The driver refused. He struggled with the officers, started the vehicle and tried to flee by accelerating forward and backward.

The officers used a Taser to bring the driver into custody. They then put the vehicle in park and turned off the ignition.

One officer was treated at the scene with minor injuries. The driver, Henry, was taken to Upstate University Hospital to be evaluated for possible ingestion of drugs.
