Syracuse, NY -- More than 800 people have been ticketed so far in the latest crackdown on drivers using cell phones or texting.
On Thursday, Syracuse launched the second wave of a campaign against distracted driving, with Syracuse police, sheriff’s deputies and troopers specifically targeting drivers on cell phones in the city.
As of Monday, 780 drivers were ticketed for using a cell phone and 92 were ticketed for texting while driving, spokesmen for police, deputies and troopers said.
In the April campaign, 2,185 drivers were ticketed for cell phones and 115 were ticketed for texting.
The latest campaign ends on Saturday. Two more enforcement periods are planned, one in October and one in April.
