Syracuse, NY -- Syracuse police identified the 18-year-old man who was shot in the face this morning while he and two friends were bicycling on the 300 block of Bellevue Avenue.

Kyari Tyson, of Syracuse, was taken to Upstate University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Here’s what police said happened.

Tyson and two friends were bicycling on the 300 block of Bellevue Avenue at about 2:15 a.m. when they were approached by a group of about 10 people.

Tyson told police he and his friends began riding away from the group when he heard four gunshots. He was struck in the face.

Tyson rode to the 100 block of Malcolm Street where he told police about the incident.

Police continue to investigate. Anyone with information is asked to call 442-5222.
