Syracuse, NY – About 400 Central New Yorkers marched in downtown Syracuse this morning to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the historic Americans with Disabilities Act.
“We have gained a lot of success from the Americans with Disabilities Act, but we still have a long way to go,” said Sally Johnston, Advocacy Coordinator for Enable.
The march began at 10 a.m. at the ARISE building on James Street and ended at the Oncenter. Local and state officials proclaimed the month of July as Disability Awareness Month in Onondaga County.
The Americans with Disabilities Act guarantees equal opportunity for people with disabilities in public accommodations, commercial facilities, employment, transportation, government services and telecommunications. This July marks the 20th Anniversary of the ADA being signed into law.
