Syracuse, NY --The New York State Department of Transportation has closed Interstate 81 northbound for a 15-minute emergency bridge inspection.
A crane "tapped" the Interstate 690 bridge over I-81 Wednesday forcing the emergency inspection near the Renaissance Hotel, said Hank Polech, of the state DOT. I-81 is expected to be closed from 8-8:15 a.m.
The state issued notice of the closure at 7:41 a.m. Here's a live view of Syracuse traffic.
Motorists on I-81 will be directed onto I-690 west. Traffic will exit at Geddes Street. Turn left on Spencer Street. Follow Spencer and make a right on Hiawatha Boulevard where they can return to I-81 north.
