Albany, NY -- An Albany-area priest who once served at Christian Brother Academy in Syracuse admitted to abusing young boys and will be banned permanently from the ministry, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany announced Wednesday, according to the Albany Times Union.
The paper reported that James McDevitt, 64, who had most recently served as pastor at in Margaretville, pleaded guilty last week in the Delaware County town of Middletown to two misdemeanor counts of forcible touching, satisfying a raft of similar charges lodged against him last summer.
McDevitt, ordained as a priest in 1997, was at Christian Brothers Academy in the late 1980s as a brother, according to Post-Standard archives.
McDevitt will be sentenced to six years of probation at sentencing July 8, according to the The Times Union.
