Minerva, NY -- State police say they have solved a 30-year-old murder and the suspect is being brought back to New York to face charges.
Police said they arrested Thomas Anthony Collard, 62, of Samson, Ala., after he confessed on Tuesday during an interview in Alabama. Collard told police he killed his wife, June Marion Collard, on Thanksgiving in 1980 in Olmstedville, in Essex County, and disposed of her body.
Collard waived extradition, police said, and was being flown back to New York Wednesday to face a charge of murder in the second degree.
Police said the investigation was continuing and efforts would be made to find June Collard’s remains.
