Cuyler, NY -- A Syracuse man was charged Tuesday with animal cruelty and abandonment after he left dogs, cats and a goat at his former home in the Cortland County town of Cuyler, officials said.
Cortland Community SPCA Investigator William Carr said Joseph J. Gary, 41, of Syracuse, moved out of his home and left two German shepherds, three cats and a goat behind, returning to feed them only every few days, if at all.
Carr said Gary had moved out at least a week earlier and perhaps two weeks earlier. When investigators got to the home, they found the animals had no food or water available.
Gary faces five counts of animal cruelty and four counts of abandonment. The charges are all misdemeanors.
Carr said Gary was in Cortland County jail pending $500 bail or $1,000 bond.
