Syracuse, NY -- Two suspects seen on security cameras are accused of cashing in stolen lottery tickets taken during a pair of burglaries at a downtown Syracuse convenience store.
Mando's convenience store, on East Jefferson Street, was burglarized twice within a week, said Sgt. Tom Connellan. The thefts were reported on June 23 and 28, he said.
Both crimes happened the same way: the burglar broke in by throwing a brick through a front window. Stolen were cigarettes and lottery tickets, as well as cash, Connellan said.
Syracuse police and the state Lottery tracked the stolen tickets to two South Geddes Street stores, where the winning tickets were redeemed, Connellan said.
Security cameras from West Side Foods, on South Geddes Street, captured the first suspect redeeming three stolen tickets after the June 23 burglary, Connellan said.
After the second burglary, a suspect is seen on camera redeeming the lottery tickets at a gas station at the corner of South Geddes and Shonnard streets, Connellan said. That burglary was reported early Monday, June 28, but happened during the weekend because the tickets were redeemed late June 27, Connellan said.
The winning lottery tickets were for small amounts, around $20 to $40 each, Connellan said.
Anyone with information about the suspects in the videos is asked to call Syracuse Police at 442-5222.
