Syracuse, NY -- Two Syracuse women were taken to the hospital afternoon after they were struck in a North Side crosswalk by a minivan, Syracuse police said.

Khanal Bhadri, 42, of 1247 Park St., and Rekha Rizal, 36, of 139 Stueben St., were walking across Park Street with a shopping cart loaded with food about 3:30 p.m. when a white Pontiac minivan traveling south on Kirkpatrick Street turned left onto Park Street and struck them, police said.

The women were taken to Upstate University Hospital with what police characterized as "minor injuries."

Syracuse Police Sgt. Gary Bulinski said the minivan driver, Kathleen Carmosino, 66, of 143 Mary St., Syracuse, failed to observe the two women before turning in the intersection.

A broken bracelet in the street marked where the women were struck, Ghana Dhimal said. Fresh scrapes in the street showed the path of the grocery cart as it was pushed down the street and a melting carton of ice cream marked where the shopping cart came to rest against the curb.

Bulinsky said no tickets had been issued.
