The Catholic Charities of Onondaga County announced today that they have run out of free air conditioners.
The program, which gave free air conditioners to low-income families who are eligible for federal HEAP assistance and have a doctor’s note, has been maxed out, said Eleanor Carr, director of elderly services for the charities.
“We have a waiting list but it’s more than a 100 people now, almost 200 people,” Carr said. “So if we were able to locate any, I think they are all going to be spoken for. We are really sorry about that.”
If anyone has a working air conditioner or fan that they would like to donate, Carr said, they can be dropped off at the elderly services center at the Salina Civic Center at 2826 Lemoyne Ave., Mattydale.
“We would welcome any of those,” Carr said. “I turn them right around and send them back out. We have names of people who have real needs.”
