Two 10th Mountain Division soldiers were killed in Afghanistan, July 5, the Department of Defense announced.
Killed were: Pfc. Edwin C. Wood, 18, of Omaha, Neb. and Staff Sgt. Christopher F. Cabacoy, 30, of Virginia Beach, Va.
They died in Kandahar, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked their vehicle with an improvised explosive device. They were assigned to 1st Squadron, 71st Armor Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), Fort Drum, N.Y.
Wood joined the Army in October 2009 and arrived at Fort Drum April 2010. He is survived by his parents.
Cabacoy joined the Army in March 2000 and arrived at Fort Drum October 2009. He was previously deployed to Iraq from January 2004 to January 2005. Staff Sgt. Cabacoy is survived by his wife and son.
