Baldwinsville, NY -- Police and rescue crews are searching Beaver Lake for a North Syracuse man last seen swimming off a canoe this afternoon.
State Police Capt. Jeffrey Raub said Benjamin L. Hodgson, 25, of 118 Lynnhaven Drive, North Syracuse, was reported missing about 2:20 p.m. when he submerged and did not resurface.
Raub said more than 20 police and rescue workers were involved in the search. A state police helicopter and later, the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Air One circled the 200-acre lake.
Hodgson was a regular at Beaver Lake and had a season’s pass, county officials said. “He knew the area well,” Raub said.
State police and Onondaga County Sheriff’s deputies walked the circumference of the lake looking for Hodgson. “He’s a missing person at this time,” Raub said. “He could be on land. That’s our prayer.”
