Syracuse, NY -- Syracuse police have identified the alleged shooter in an attack Wednesday on Graves Street as Kennedy Smiley, 28, of Syracuse.
Smiley was one of three men taken into custody Wednesday after Shaiem Hackett, 17, was shot in the upper right chest while walking about 6:30 p.m. on the 100 block of Graves Street on the city's north side, Sgt. Tom Connellan said.
Witnesses directed police to a home at 413 Douglas St. where the suspects were said to have fled, Connellan said. Smiley "was positively identified as the shooter," he said.
Using a search warrant, police found a .380 caliber handgun at the residence, he said.
Kennedy was charged with second-degree assault and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, Connellan said.
He did not identify the other two men but said they had not been charged.
The investigation is continuing, he said.
