Syracuse, NY -- Police are investigating a shooting that took place about 3:45 a.m. on the city's north side.

Robert Thomas, 30, of 306 Shuart Ave., was shot in the lower left leg while riding his bicycle on the 200 block of Highland Street, Sgt. Tom Connellan said. Thomas rode home and Onondaga County E-911 was notified, Connellan said.

The suspects are two men who drove by in a black Dodge Intrepid and shot him, Connellan said. They were last seen heading west on James Street, he said.

Thomas was taken to Upstate University Hospital for treatment of an injury that was not considered life-threatening, Connellan said.

No one on Highland Street made a shots-fired complaint and police were unable to locate a shooting scene there, he noted.

He asked people with information to call the Criminal Investigation Division at 442-5222.

Thomas' shooting was the second to take place in that neighborhood in less than 10 hours.

Shaiem Hackett was shot in the chest by one of three assailants as he was walking on the 100 block of Graves Street about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, police said.

Hackett was in serious but stable condition at Upstate late Wednesday. Three men have been taken into custody and a handgun that may have been used in that attack has been recovered, police said.
