Syracuse, NY -- Three males are in custody after a 17-year-old man was shot on Syracuse’s North Side Wednesday evening, police said.
Shaiem Hackett was walking in the 100 block Graves Street at 6:30 when he was approached by three males, witnesses told police. One of the males pulled out a handgun and shot Hackett in the chest, said Syracuse Police Sgt. Tom Connellan.
When police arrived, they found a number of witnesses who gave them a description of the three and told them which way they had headed after the shooting.
Hackett was taken to Upstate University Hospital where he was first listed in critical condition. Later Wednesday night, his condition was upgraded to serious, but stable. He’s expected to live, said Connellan.
With information from witnesses and neighbors, police traced the three suspects to 400 block of Douglas Street. The three were taken into custody by police, Connellan said, and officers “recovered a handgun that may have been used in the shooting.”
No charges had been filed, “as of this time,” Connellan said.
